Athletics are an important part of FRA, and we offer a wide range of sports. Students learn a great deal from participation in interscholastic athletics. Lessons in sportsmanship, teamwork, competition, and winning and losing gracefully are integral parts of team play. Athletics also help students develop a concept of self, and the importance of maintaining a healthy body. Athletic competition adds to our school spirit and helps students, spectators and participants to develop pride in our school.
As a member of the Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association, Harpeth Valley Athletic Conference, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Southern Association of Independent Schools, the rules and regulations which govern school athletics are supported by FRA. All questions concerning eligibility and participation should be directed to the team coach, the director of athletics, or the dean of the school.
In the Upper School, FRA fields teams in every sport sanctioned by the TSSAA, as well as cheerleading, hockey and swimming. The Middle School fields teams in most sports. FRA football is offered in 5th and 6th grade and students have opportunities to participate in community league sports programs. Seventh and eight graders have PE every other day, and are encouraged to pursue their sports interests by participating in Middle School Conference Play. FRA students, parents, and fans are expected to display good sportsmanship at all games at home and away.
FRA appreciates the participation of all athletes, and each is presented with a Certificate of Appreciation or a varsity letter. Certificates of Appreciation are awarded to Middle and Upper School students who participate in a sport for an entire season. Varsity letters are awarded for achievement in a sport and for contribution to a team. Criteria for earning varsity letters are determined by individual coaches.
Athletic Boosters
The Athletic Boosters Club, through the sports program and other projects, helps to provide quality equipment, uniforms, and facilities for the athletic programs at Franklin Road Academy. Membership includes two tickets to all regular season home games. We encourage you to join the Athletic Boosters Club.
