“To
whom much is given, much is expected.” Luke 12:48
FRA students understand that they are
called to give back, to share their blessings with others. At each grade level,
students are involved in meaningful service-learning projects each year.
- Lower School:
- Each grade level is involved in a
service-learning project. We want our
students to give of themselves through projects such as collecting books for
Appalachia, making cards and food tray favors for hospital patients, and
collecting toys and items for disadvantaged children, just to name a few recent
projects.
- Middle School:
- The student council suggests projects which our
students then lead. Second Harvest Food Bank, The Salvation Army Christmas
Stocking Stuffer Program, Ronald McDonald House, and many other organizations
provide an opportunity for our students to step up and step out for others.
- Upper School:
- Service learning is a graduation requirement
at FRA. Our students must complete 20 hours of service during their Upper School
years, and they far exceed that total. The Class of 2010 earned over 3,200
service hours. The Turner Fellowship Program is an incredible opportunity for selected students in the summer
between their junior and senior year to work in a community not-for-profit agency
for six weeks serving children and their families.
Among the many projects
that our students organize and lead are:
- Special Olympics Game Day
- Rwanda Book Drive
- Prom Fashion Show Fundraiser
- Student Council
adopt-a-family for Christmas
- Oasis Center bike drive
- Battle of the Bands
The Class of 2009 began a new FRA tradition — seniors
conducted the first Habitat for Humanity wall build by a high school group — raising
the funds for the project and building over 80 walls in six hours on our campus. The Class of 2010 followed up raising over $5,000 for their build.
Experiences in service-learning bring life to our Christian message and are a
wonderful connector to lives that will “make a difference.”
